In 1992, he put together the musicians that formed the pop band that is alive until this day: Karnak.

He became the creative director for the group and has received many awards in Brazil and overseas.

They launched three CDs: Karnak (1995), Universo Umbigo (Belly-button Universe) (1997) and Estamos Adorando Tóquio (We are Loving Tokyo) (2000). This latest CD was produced by Abujamra with Sérgio Bartolo and Evaldo Luna. Other than the work with the band, Abujamra composes soundtracks for movies.
